We all have THAT chair. The one in the corner of our bedroom where we pile all the clothes we pull out when putting an outfit together. Can you imagine if your job was a fashion runway? Composing multiple outfits, for multiple people, for multiple occasions—how many discard pile chairs do you think you’d need? For Cynthia, not many.

Cynthia J. Molina is a Los Angeles-based fashion stylist, designing outfits for editorial, e-commerce, and commercial photoshoots. She developed her dynamic styling by working with several brand-name clients throughout her career, including Windsor, REVOLVE, and Boohoo. Cynthia describes her styling approach and personal style as versatile, ranging from edgy to contemporary and from romantic to sexy.

I met Cynthia a few years ago while working at the same e-commerce company—she styled clothes in the photo studio, and I was on the buying team. She introduced herself, and I remember receiving her warm energy whenever we connected in passing. Because we worked at a fashion company, our office served as its own runway show. I was always impressed by Cynthia’s multifaceted style and the confidence she exuded in her distinct outfits.

Cynthia’s love for clothes began as a young girl. She would allocate all her birthday and holiday money toward building her wardrobe, colluding with her younger sister to ask their parents for toys while Cynthia asked for clothes. She recalls watching The Look For Less program on the Style Network and thinking, “I want to do that someday and make people [look and] feel good.”

Cynthia’s first step in pursuing this dream was attending the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising (FIDM) in Los Angeles. She sought out internship opportunities to expand her network and experience while also working a sales associate job at Tilly’s. She spoke fondly of her time there, surrounded by people who shared and encouraged her passion for clothing and creativity in self-expression. They remain close friends to this day.

A driving ethos in Cynthia’s work is demonstrating how any person can pull off any style, that there is no right or wrong in fashion.

In her current position at The Kript, Cynthia is responsible for producing and styling photoshoots, and she also manages the brand’s Instagram profile and influencer marketing. Her perspective on brand marketing is to create content that is relatable to all kinds of consumers to be able to “see someone who looks like them—a variety of models, sizes, ethnicities, [genders], and backgrounds.” Her hopes for the future of fashion are for more brands to be open to working with all types of people because “it is so important to be inclusive of all identities, to lift everyone up.”

With each brand Cynthia has worked with over the years, she learned more about the ins and outs of the industry and elevated her styling. Reflecting on her career journey, Cynthia appreciates her own dedication to fashion.

“I’m always working and doing different things,” she said. “I really don’t know what else I could do. This is what I care about. [Although] nothing in this industry is easy, it’s also rewarding.”

Thank you, Cynthia, for sharing your passion for empowerment through clothing. Your kind and positive energy is infectious. Your confidence in rocking any style is an aspiration to be bold in self-expression.
