We all lead busy lives. Between working full-time, taking care of families and ourselves, trying to get enough sleep, relaxing and unwinding, we never seem to have enough time. There is always more to do and not enough time to do it.

However, with a few helpful tips on how to manage your time, living a more organized life may be easier than you think.

In this episode of Brunch, Catie is sitting down with Candace Gorgen, founder of I Organize You, to discuss how to better manage our time. Candace is sharing her tips on how to lead a more organized life and feel like you have time to get it all done.

Identify your core values

We need to always be asking ourselves what is most important to us. When we aren’t 100% honest, or if we don’t truly know what our values are, we can easily spend our time on something that isn’t going to benefit us in the long run.

When Candace meets with her clients she makes sure to discuss what their vision/goals are, what their core values are and really hone in on what is important to them. Candace points out, “when you are identifying these things, a lot can come up, so be sure to be truly honest with what you were called to do, what your passion is and the things that are going to propel you forward.”

Say no

Once you’ve completed the task of truly identifying what your core values are, the second tip of saying “no” to anything that doesn’t align with those values or vision/goal, comes into play.

“This is difficult and comes with practice,” says Candace, but “no is a complete sentence and you can do it in a way that is graceful.” If there is something that doesn’t align with what you identified as a core value, don’t waste your time. “People will begin to honor your reputation when you start to say “no” because you really value yourself and you value your time.”

Time blocking

“Success is scheduled” is Candace’s motto and one that she truly believes in. Blocking off time to get the things on your to-do list completed is key when it comes to living a more organized life.

With time blocking you are deciding on a set amount of time to complete a certain task and achieve the result you want. Using this technique will help to keep you on track throughout the day instead of wasting time on the things that are not a priority.

Less is more

This may seem counterintuitive when we are talking about getting as much done as possible, but as Candace states, “focusing on one thing at a time is way more essential and you will receive a better pay-off.”

When we are splitting our time and multitasking, there’s a good chance we aren’t getting done nearly as much as we think. Use Candace’s tip of time-blocking to focus on one thing at a time. “We can’t be 100% at anything when our hands are in multiple pots.” Focus on one thing, complete that one thing and then move on to the next.

Think of time like money

Time is money, we’ve all heard it and Candace reiterates that this point is key when trying to better manage your time. Just like we track our spending habits, track your time, “if you don’t tell your time where to go, it will tell you,'' says Candace.

Tracking your time will help you to better know where you are wasting it and where you need to invest more of it. Treating your time like money will help you in figuring out ways to save your time and see better options on how to spend it.
